Planning
Our experienced team is committed from the initiation of an idea, right through to completion and delivery.
Planning is a process that must be meticulously executed. We start with enthusiasm and imagination; the dream of what this could be ‘one day’…both in architecture and end use.
We relish the challenge of balancing the need for new buildings with respect for the natural or historic setting. Our work often takes us to highly sensitive locations which require a delicate approach to architecture and development and a commitment to enhancing an already special place.
We put a thoroughly researched understanding of environment and conservation on an equal footing with our commercial needs. It is an approach that has delivered support rather than scepticism on some very challenging proposals.
In Torquay, for example, we gained the support of neighbours, the local planning department and politicians for our care village on the site of a historic manor. We planned new eco homes in the coastal woodland area presumed to be a ‘no-build zone’, the project respected both conservation of the listed building and its beautiful setting. On the harbour’s edge in Christchurch – a site of special scientific interest, we obtained permission for a £14m regeneration scheme which included a hotel and harbour-side houses designed to blend into their environment. We also sort and gained planning for the country’s first carbon-positive restaurant, The Jetty, a dynamic signature restaurant with the acclaimed chef, Alex Aitken.
